I for some reason believe the name is Dutch and came over with the Dutch for land reclamation in Lincolnshire (correct me if I'm wrong). Would sure love to contact those who know. I'm another of the Houlden's who is a descendant of William Houlden, the "fishmonger" born in 1823, who raised his family in Heckington, Lincolnshire. His son William was my great Grandfather and his son Ernest was my grandfather. My father Trevor was born in Halifax and I was born in Colne, Lancashire. I was born 30-8-51, Over Tabley Nr Knutsford. Moved to Ashton-upon-Mersey when about 4 years old. Joined the Royal Navy Sept 1968 and was invalided out in 1988. My two other brothers joined the Navy. Paul served 9 years and Robin 22 years. Father Mr Thomas Houlden died 1966. Mother Mrs Jane Houlden living in Weymouth. Two brothers - Paul born 1950 lives in Bristol, Robin born 1956 lives in Weymouth.
My mother sent me this poem written in the 1920's for Arthur Houlden, Shoemaker and sexton at St Paul's church Over Tabley. The house and shop were next to the church and that was where I was born. They are now combined into a residential property. |

I have a son Matthew Stewart Houlden and a daughter Catherine Ann Houlden (married but has kept the Houlden name) both in Ottawa. Stephen has a son Andrew Michael Houlden in Yellowknife, Yukon, and David has a son Kyle Houlden. |

I am one of the greatgrandchildren of George Stanley Houlden who married Ann Cook. My grandfather was Henry Houlden and my father was Joseph Henry Houlden. I have a son Kevin Scott Houlden and a daughter Lindsay Mary Houlden a granddaughter Sophie Anne Houlden and grandson Izak Houlden Stopps.
